Music Information

This is a musical interpretation of a visual experience I had while playing a Cminor chord on a piano. I sketched the visual imagery, entered it into Overture2® software, which converted it into musical notes. From there it was sent directly to my computer’s Soundblaster® sound card, and Voila! Most of the original composition remains, though some edits were made to correct some ugly sounds. The two spheres in purple connected by three light blue lines (left-hand, top) are the opening chords of Cminor, which is how I “see/hear” that chord. Please note: No musicians were harmed during the making of this piece.

Art Information

Yes, this is MusicArt also. I felt compelled to convert my art into a musical “score,” especially after reading about and listening to works by the modern composer Gyorgy Ligeti, who drafts some of his scores as “Listening Scores." For me they are as much visual art as they are music. This piece is stylistically similar to the art of Wassily Kandinsky. I recall reading that Kandinsky experienced synesthesia and said something to the effect that he believed that he “painted music."
