Guitar Sound Sculpture: after Picasso Paper size: 24" X 36" Music InformationTo play along at home, it’s in the key of E (4/4time). Last cycle is 14 bars long (just repeat bars 9 & 10 for ending). It sounds great because it was professionally recorded in a real studio with real musicians interpreting my interpretation. Those real musicians have lots of talent and lots of patience for “not so talented visual artist-musician wannabe’s." By the way, those real musicians on this recording are: Ken Cottrel – all keyboard related activities; Pete Richards – bass guitar; Jeff Freeman – guitar. They rock! Art InformationArt interpretation of Picasso’s 1912 metal sculpture called “The Guitar." I read in Timothy Hilton’s “Picasso” (pgs. 114-115) that this sculpture is important because it changed how mass and volume were used by sculptors. I love the work of Picasso, but especially this piece. Georges Braque created the first paper or cardboard cutout of a guitar as a model for a cubist painting, however Picasso apparently procured the idea before Braque could create his painting. Picasso’s version was highly successful. I really like “The Guitar” and my goal was to turn it in to music (MusicArt) and interpret how both Braque and Picasso might have seen it if they created MusicArt. |
